Description
Just a few steps from the main square of Muro Leccese, a quaint little village replete with the history and culture of ancient Messapian Salento, and only a 10 minute drive from Otranto, is Palazzo Artes. This palazzo dating back to the 16th century derives its unique charm from its stonework fireplaces, its spacious rooms with star-vaulted and barrel-vaulted ceilings, its stylish, minimalist furniture and the special touch added by the fine artwork belonging to the owners’ private collection.
Palazzo Artes has preserved its original structure, clustered around a small internal cloister with a three-arched portal, where a tall palm tree soars high in the sky. The predominant white colour of the interior is elegantly combined with a range of subtle colours, and the large glass doors provide brightness and depth to the various rooms.
The two levels, interconnected via internal and external staircases, spread over a total surface of 600 m2. The property also includes two outdoor shaded pergolas, several terraces, a garden with a citrus grove and a lovely swimming pool (20x2m). It features 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms/bathtubs, 3 bathrooms/showers, 1 water closet, 3 equipped kitchens, 2 living-dining rooms, 1 large dining room, 1 magnificent living room and a series of independent accesses which make it possible for Casa Artes to be readily divided into several units (living area, units A, B, C, D).
Ground floor (living area, unit A):
The entrance to the palazzo is located in a small square of the historic centre and opens into an internal courtyard providing access to the first unit (A), which is also accessible from the little square out on the street. The first unit (A) features a large master bedroom and ensuite bathroom with a round bathtub and a stonework fireplace, a living-dining room, an equipped kitchen and a small water closet. At the end of the courtyard is a door that opens into the lovely internal cloister which provides access to the different units: a beautiful stonework staircase leads to the first floor, to the stunning ground floor living area and to Unit A. The living area features a large, spectacular dining room with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, a stonework fireplace, a 5-metre long contemporary design dining table and a lovely view of the garden. It provides access to a bright, striking living room with a fireplace and, on both sides, two large glass doors offering a very peaceful view of the swimming pool and the citrus grove. The living area also includes a small lounge-dining room, a bathroom/shower and two equipped kitchens, one of which features a superb stonework fireplace. Both have an access to the outdoor patio.
First floor (units B, C and D):
this floor can be reached via the porch (external staircase) or unit A (internal staircase) and features a series of terraces, some of which overlook the cloister and others, the garden. Unit B includes two bedrooms, one double and the other a triple, each with a star-vaulted ceiling, a balcony and a bathroom/bathtub. Unit C includes a double bedroom with a star-vaulted ceiling and a bathroom/shower. Unit D features 1 double and 1 triple bedroom with star-vaulted ceilings and a shared bathroom/shower. There is also a laundry area with a washing machine and a small washbasin on one of the terraces that can be used to hang the washing.
Outdoor layout (approx. 100 m2):
shaded furnished patio with a BBQ, a worktop and a dining table (8-10 seats), a superb swimming pool (20x2m) with lounge chairs and sunbeds on a wood deck, several chill-out areas and a lush orange grove.
The authenticity of this historical palazzo has been preserved thanks to a careful restoration based on the preservation of the original distinctive features, enhanced by the addition of the very modern amenities that contribute to high-end comfort.
