Casa Galata

Characterized by a distinct Mediterranean feel but with an unquestionably international style, Casa Galata is the ideal holiday home to rent for those who would need to work during their stay. Equipped with air conditioning, excellent Wi-Fi connection and a small swimming pool with hydromassage to relax, it is situated in the heart of the historic centre of a little town in Southern Puglia (Salento), at just 3.5 km from the sea (Marina di Andrano), as well as at 6 km from the renowned, beautiful and ancient marina on the sea called Castro.

Located on the back of the little church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo (right in front of the pretty little castle of Andrano), this house features a large and enchanting garden that, probably once, was partly the cloister of a small monastery attached to it or more simply the rectory of the parish priest of the church. This is suggested by the meditative walkways, bordered by rows of columns that frame the garden and conclude their path in front of the beautiful votive niche depicting the Virgin Mary as if to protect the house.

A careful philological restoration has enhanced the architectonic features typical of the ancient buildings of the area, as for example the white-wash walls and the wide vaulted ceilings, whereas the decoration and the comfort the house offers are ultimately contemporary and full of charm. The house also has 3 autonomous and independent entrances from the 2 alleys that delimit and serve the property. It is all on one level (ground floor) and mainly overlooks its private garden.

The amazing outdoor area includes a convivial area with swimming pool, sunbathing area with sun loungers, outdoor shower, toilet, dining table for 6/8 people, outdoor kitchen equipped with sink, electric BBQ and induction hob, where you can spend relaxing afternoons sipping aperitifs and then pleasantly dining al-fresco, and an adjoining area, mirrored by a lush, shady garden and lawn, set up as a relaxation corner with outdoor sofas and armchairs.

The house is accessed through French windows from the courtyard/garden. One thus immediately enters the living area with sofas and armchairs. This serves as the fulcrum dividing the surrounding rooms. In fact, on the left, almost ideally separated only by a low cupboard, there is the large, very well-equipped kitchen with a 10-seat dining table, next to it a small bathroom with laundry corner, while on the right is access to the 2 large double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom/shower: The first bedroom, which is a little smaller, also has independent access with a French window facing the outdoor area - pool/dining area - while the other larger bedroom, which is behind the living room, also includes a small anteroom with a double sofa bed but separated from the bedroom only by a low wardrobe, thus open above. This anteroom gives access to both the bathroom with shower and a small private courtyard which opens onto the small alley at the back of the church. Both bedrooms are equipped with large, spacious wardrobes.

Why we like it

Despite being in a town centre, it offers optimal privacy and an enviable outdoor space in which to spend entire days because very well equipped: swimming pool area, outdoor bathroom, al-fresco dining area with kitchenette and relaxation area in the greenery. It is an oasis of peace from which you can easily walk to the centre with its various small shops selling local products and restaurants, while in a very short drive you can reach the wonderful crystal-clear sea of the Adriatic coast.
