Porto cesareo, anticamente conosciuta come “Sasinae Portus”, è una splendida cittadina del Salento, situata sul Mar Ionio nella parte orientale del Golfo di Taranto.

Il suo litorale si caratterizza grazie a  tratti di baie e lagune con immense distese di sabbia dorata, limitate verso terra da un cordone dunale, perfetto esempio di macchia mediterranea i cui esemplari arborei sono definite tra i più belli d’Italia ed inseriti negli habitat prioritari dell’Unione Europea. La costa, ricca della presenza di numerosi promotori, isolotti e scogli, si articola in cale sabbiose alternate a tratti di scogliere basse. Tra le isole dell’arcipelago, ha senza dubbio maggior rilevanza l’Isola Grande, chiamata dagli abitanti Isola dei Conigli. E’ possibile raggiungerla a piedi attraverso il porto, oppure grazie alle numerose imbarcazioni dei pescatori. Il mare possiede caratteristiche fisiche e chimiche tipiche del Mediterraneo, con formazioni coralline multicolori ed acqua eccezionalmente limpida. La baia di Porto Cesareo assume un incredibile fascino anche al calare del sole poichè, grazie alle numerose isolette della laguna ed alle imbarcazioni dei pescatori ormeggiate a largo della spiaggia, si può godere di un panorama davvero incantevole. Il patrimonio storico e culturale del territorio è caratterizzato dalla presenza di diverse torri costiere di avvistamento, alcune delle quali possono essere raggiunte dai visitatori che da questi luoghi possono accedere ad ampie vedute della costa.

Porto cesareo è inoltre sede dell’Area Marina Protetta e della “Riserva Naturale Orientata, Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera – Porto Cesareo”, sito di grande importanza naturalistica.

Porto Cesareo is also home to the Marine Protected Area and the “Riserva Naturale Orientata, Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera – Porto Cesareo”, a site of great ecological importance.
